NOS GALON GAEAF (SAMHAIN SABBAT RITUAL): Sundown, October 31 All the members are properly prepared. The High Priest and High Priestess or Maiden shall set up the altar in the North of the Circle. A wreath of Autumn flowers, apples and nuts is on the altar, the crown of the Horned God also. The High Priestess shall wear a tabard of chiffon. They then light the candles and the incense. The Cauldron shall be in the center of the Circle. The four watchtower candles shall be placed at the perimeter of the Circle, E, S, W, N. The entrance to the circle shall be to the Northeast. None shall enter or leave the circle except by the northeast gateway. Food and drink should be ready for the end of the ritual. Both High Priest and High Priestess are Inside the Circle as they cast it. The High Priest casts the circle with the Rod, beginning in the East and proceeding Deosil thrice around the Circle. The High Priest then places the Rod at the foot of the Altar. The Circle is then consecrated (purified). The High Priest takes the salt from the Altar and proceeds Deosil three times around the Circle saying: "Creature of Salt where thou art cast, no spell or adverse purpose last. Not in complete accord with me, as I do will, so mote it be." The High Priest takes the south candle from the Altar and proceeds Deosil three times around the Circle saying: "Creature of Fire this charge I lay, no evil in thy presence stay, not in complete accord with me, as I do will, so mote it be." The High Priest takes the water from the Altar and proceeds Deosil three times around the Circle saying: "Creature of Water where thou art cast, no spell or adverse purpose last, not in complete accord with me, as I do will, so mote it be." The High Prist takes the incense from the Altar and proceeds Deosil three times around the Circle saying: "Creature of Air this charge I lay, no evil in thy presence stay, not in complete accord with me, as I do will so mote it be." The High Priest then lights the God and Goddess candles, Left to Right, saying: "Oh gracious Ceridwen, goddess of all things, provider of Love and Happiness, be with us here as we celebrate your season. Oh great Cernunnos, god of nature and the hunt, powerful god of Light, be with us here as we celebrate your season." The maiden candle is lit and the High Priest and High Priest walk to the northeastern gateway and welcome the Maiden and Candlebearer into the circle, Challenging them with: H.P./s: "Halt, who goes there?" Seeker: "It is I, (Name), a seeker." H.P./s: "What are the passwords, (Name)?" Seeker: Gives Passwords (If second Level or higher, the seeker whispers the password) The High Priest/ess then makes the sign of admittance on the forehead of the seeker and says: "I have a third password for you." (whispers reply) The seeker is then kissed on each cheek or the mouth if appropriate. All others are then admitted in like manner. The members assemble, facing East, with the High Priest and High Priestess standing in the East of the Circle. The Maiden then rings the Bell three times. The High Priest hits the ground three times with the Rod. High Priestess faces the West: "On this night all roads cross, and the gates are open. There is stirring in the hidden places where our eyes do not see. "Now all nights, all dreams, all worlds are come together, at the center of the spinning wheel. All time dances around us. Those who have gone before, those who will come after, watch from their waiting houses. "I stand at the crossroads, at the moment of no time. I stand in the presence of all times and all places. They are here with us now, the Old Ones, out of their secret houses, the apple land. "The spotted serpent coils about the circle and feet not human leave their marks in the earth. The air resounds with silver apples shaken, the calling of the birds of Rhiannon. "I stand in the presence of all life, all death. Now is Death come among us, the dark and secret lord. The year is dead, the corn is dead, beings we love are dead, lost to our flesh. "They are gone into the west, with those that have been and will be again. Beyond the moment of fear lies the apple land and behind the dark mask, the face of joy. The time of rest is come upon them and the wind rustling the apple boughs in the gardens beyond the sunset and they shall return, springing forth from the cauldron in new flesh to embrace us in beauty yet hidden." The High Priest raises his arms toward the Eastern Watchtower, makes the sign of the invoking Pentagram with his Athame and says: "All hail to thee Amaetheon! O Great guardian who stands at the East of the world. Thou art lord within the realm of LUGH. Golden bright and wise as the Owl. We, the children of light, bid thee come forth to join us at this holy Sabbat in the sacred grove of the wise." The High Priest lights the East watchtower candle and then hits the ground three times with the Rod. All say: "So mote it be!" The High Priest walks to the South watchtower. He makes the sign of the invoking Pentagram with his Athame and says: "All hail to thee Govannon! O great guardian who stands at the South of the World. Thou art lord within the realm of the serpent, fiery bright and quick as the cat. We, the children of light bid thee come forth to join us at this holy Sabbat in the sacred grove of the wise." The High Priest lights the South watchtower candle and then hits the ground three times with the Rod. All say: "So mote it be!" The High Priest walks to the West watchtower. He makes the sign of the invoking Pentagram with his Athame and says: "All hail to thee Dylan! O Great guardian who stands at the West of the world. Thou art lord within the realm of the Lady, silvery bright and triple starred. We, the children of light, bid thee come forth to join us at this holy Sabbat in the sacred grove of the wise." The High Priest lights the West watchtower candle and then hits the ground three times with the Rod. All say: "So mote it be!" The High Priest walks to the North watchtower. He makes the sign of the invoking Pentagram with his Athame and says: "All hail to thee Lugh! O Great Guardian who stands at the North of the world. Thou art lord within the realm of the Horned one, shining bright and swift as the wind. We, the children of light, bid thee come forth to join us at this holy Sabbat in the sacred grove of the wise." The High Priest lights the North watchtower candle and then hits the ground three times with the Rod. All say: "So mote it be!" The Rod is then laid to the front of the Altar with the silver tip pointing west. The Maiden then hands the elf fire to the High Priest who lights the Balefire which is laid under the cauldron if outdoors and in the cauldron if indoors. The maiden then replaces the elf fire upon the Altar and resumes her place. As the Samhain fire flares up, all face toward it in a Circle. The High Priest will now face north and raise his Sword. He will then make an invoking Pentagram and intone slowly: "Io, Evohe, O' Gods, beloved of us all, bless this our Sabbat that we, thy humble worshipers, may meet in love, joy and bliss. Bless our rites this night with the presence of our departed kin. Hearken unto me all ye spirits who walk the Hallows night. Ye who are of merry mein, We bid thee come forth. Speak to us of things forbidden and unknown. If ye be worthy, then may you join us on this holy night. Io, Evohe." The grove then says: "Io, Evohe, Blessed be, Io, Evohe." The High Priest faces the north, raising his Athame, and makes the sign of the invoking Pentagram, saying: "I O I O I O Evohe" The grove then says: "Oh, mighty Hu of the Summerland, Guardian of our beloved dead and keeper of souls, We pour forth our love upon those who are in thy keeping. Blessed be all those who have gone before us into thy realm. So mote it be. I O I O I O Evohe" "Hearken unto us, all ye spirits who walk the Hallow's night. Ye who are of merry mein, we bid come forth. Speak to us of things forbidden and unknown. If ye be worthy, then may ye join us in this sacred grove of Pan! I O I O I O I O Evohe." "Blessed be. I O Evohe. Blessed be." The High Priestess says: "Dread lord of the shadows, god of life, we need your knowledge as the giver of death. Open wide, I pray you, the gates through which all must pass. Let our dear ones who have gone before return this night to make merry with us. And when our time comes, as it must, O thou the comforter, the consoler, the giver of peace and rest, we will enter thy realms gladly and unafraid; For we know that when we are rested and refreshed among our dear ones, we will be reborn by thy benevolence, and that of the Great Mother. Let it be the same place and the same time as our beloved ones, and may we meet, and know and remember, and love them again. Descend, we pray thee, into thy servant and priest." The blessing is given following consecration of the honey. Grove: "O Pan of the Summerland, guardian of our beloved dead and keeper of souls, we pour forth our love upon those who are in thy keeping. Blessed be all those that have preceded us into thy realm. Blessed be the resting place of their bones. May they be kept from the thief who lurks in the tomb. May all those who are not bones or dust beyond their time be returned to thee by the fire of purification. So mote it be." The High Priestess walks around the cauldron and gives a kiss to the High Priest. She returns to her place, facing the High Priest across the cauldron. Each female member also kisses the High Priest in turn. A members return to their places, male and female alternatively. The maiden is next to the West watchtower, the Candlebearer is next to the East watchtower. The High Priestess says: "Behold, Annwn, the land of the dead, to which many of our loved ones have gone for rest and renewal. This is the land of Dylan, king of the wave. On this night, we hold communion with our loved ones. As our maiden stands in welcome at the West gate, I call upon you, my brothers and sisters of the craft, to hold the image of your loved one in your heart and mind, that they may have an easy road. "There is no mystery within this mystery; for the resting place between the worlds is Caer Arianrhod, the Castle of the silver wheel. This is the center of the North sky where reigns Arianrhod, the Lady in white. Let the lady lead these spirits to us. (the maiden walks spiraling widdershins to the centre of the circle) For the spiral path leads to Caer Arianrhod." She then faces the High Priestess across the cauldron and stops. The two hold their hands out to the other clasping the others hand in theirs. The High Priestess says: "Those who you have brought are welcome to our festival. May they remain in peace and love. But you Maiden, you must return by the path by which you came." (the maiden walks back spiraling outward Deosil) Following the blessing of the dead, the Grove joins in performing acts of necromancy, such as automatic writing, crystal gazing, tarot, trance, the spirit ring, and others. A member should be appointed to take notes of the proceedings. At a suitable time, the coven again stands in a circle and takes leave of the Souls: all members face north. All make the sign of the banishing Pentagram in the air with their Thames and say: "Blessed be thee, o spirits of the Summerland, We thank thee for having joined with us the Sabbats of Pan. May ye depart in peace, love and harmony until we meet again. Guide the children of the Wicca until thou art reborn in love. Blessed be. I O Evohe. Blessed Be." The High Priest now faces north and says: "Answer us, oh ancient horned one, provender and power are thine. Hear and answer gracious goddess, grant us laughter, wit and wine. Descend on us, oh thou, of blessings, come among us, make us glad. Thou are chief of all creation, why, oh why should we be sad? "Beam on us, on joyous Bacchus, banish heavy-hearted hate. Accept our craft, oh Greatest Mother, let cheerful brightness be our fate." The High Priest than faces the altar and says: "By the flame that burneth bright, O horned one! We call thy name into the night, O Ancient One, Thee we invoke, by the moonlit sea, By the standing stone and the twisted tree. Thee we invoke, where gather thine own, By the nameless shore, forgotten and lone. Come where the round of the dance is trod, Horn and Hoof of the Goat Foot God! By moon lit meadow, on dusky hill, When the haunted wood is hushed and still, Come to the charm of the chanted prayer, As the moon bewitches the midnight air. Evoke thy powers that potent bide, In shining stream and the secret tide. In fiery flame by starlight pale, In shadowy host that rides the gale. And by the fernbreaks, fairy haunted, Of forests wild and woods enchanted, Come! O Come! to the heart-beats drum! Come to us who gather below, When the broad white moon is climbing slow, Through the stars to the heavens' height, We hear thy hoofs on the winds of night! As black tree branches shake and sigh, By joy and terror we know thee nigh. We speak the spell thy power unlocks, At Solstice, Sabbat and Equinox!
