| We will leave it up to the reader to determine whether
J. C. Watts has made serious errors in in judgment. J. C. has supported a
Conservative Christian position especially when it comes to Church and State issues.
It is apparent from the data collected, that the first amendment may be in danger from his
past and future actions. J. C. Watts's office like others we called, stated that his position is that Judeaism, Islam, Shintoism, Hindu, wicca, are not "Real" religions." What is a real religion, Mr. Watts? What you have been practicing? Read the following and remember: "By their Works may they be known." This is a summary of information collected from several sources about J. C. Watts. (Remember it is best to investigate on your own when looking at allegations about anyone. Don't believe us, think for yourself and investigate for yourself! And remember, the Religious Freedom Coalition does not represent any political party nor do we recommend any political candidate, nor are we involving ourselves in the political process. This information is only for students of J. C. Watts) J.C. Watts was the only black Republican Member of Congress in 1995. Watts has been elected to the House of Representatives from the 4th District of Oklahoma since 1994. In February 1997 the GOPhoping to show America that it was not the party of lynchingselected him to deliver the rebuttal to President Clinton's State of the Union address. On June 10, 1997, J.C. Watts issued a press release in his home state. Under the headline "The Most Cherished TitleDad," Watts extolled the responsibilities of fatherhood. The then-39-year-old legislator had learned the importance of paternal values more than 20 years earlier. While still in his teens the future recipient of the Christian Coalition's Friend of the Family Award had sired two out-of-wedlock children with two different women. Virile and prolific, J.C. grew up to become a testifying Baptist minister. As a man of God and a Congressman, he vehemently preached against the moral failings of President Clinton. In Watts's Father's Day editorial he asks: "How can I tell my 18-year-old son and my 12-year-old daughter they can't spend more than they take in and then fly to Washington and vote for a budget that doesn't balance? As a father, I set the example for my kids' behavior. Kids are smart; they know the difference of walking the walk and talking the talk." No one contests Watts's ability to talk. As for his walk? The Oklahoman's trail of financial slop reaches back to his first days in public office. The Hill reported in December 1998 that Watts filed inaccurate disclosures about his personal finances ever since his election in 1994. Gary Gardenhire, an attorney for the Congressman, claimed that the numerous questionable areas in his client's records were all the result of a single "scrivener's error." How can J.C.'s kids believe Daddy's talk of balancing the national budget when he can't even keep his own checkbook straight? Watts has a fiscal history of what might charitably be described as mistakes in judgment. He has been the target for lawsuits and garnishment actions for debts ranging from doctor's bills to a $25,000 oil-and-gas investment loan. The state of Oklahoma filed liens against him for his 1983, '84 and '86 income taxes. He was late in paying property taxes for 1992, '93 and '94. In 1994 he did not declare $14,320 of his wife's earnings on his federal income-tax return. Sheri Lynn Reed, an employee of Watts's Esquire Management company in 1995, sued Watts when he failed to pay her salary. Ultimately she was awarded more than $13,000 in back wages and penalties. In 1996, J.C. Watts took a personal loan of between $15,000 and $50,000 from Jerome Ansel, a Florida real-estate tycoon whose generous contributions to the Republican Party earned him a place on the GOP's Team 100 of valued donors. Charles Lewis, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity, noted: "It's always worrisome when lawmakers get money personally from their campaign donors. In our research over the years, conflict of interest increases tremendously when someone goes down this road." "I've made dumb choices, and I'll make more," admits Watts, who apparently turned down a secretly recorded offer of a $1,500 bribe in 1994. The choice to become a black shill for the Republican Party may have been a wise career move, but it is a position Watts's father has likened to "a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders." Darlene Watts, the Congressman's 35-year-old youngest sister, has no more in common with her brother's upright Republican persona than does their father. Darlene is known on the streets of Oklahoma City as "Chocolate." The woman's criminal record includes a 1996 arrest for "engaging in an act of lewdness." Chocolate had been picked up while working at PB's, an Oklahoma City strip club where the entertainers were ostensibly accepting food stamps in exchange for table-dances. While Darlene's sentencing on the lewdness charge was still pending, officers raided the house where she was living, discovering marijuana, rolling papers and methamphetamine residue. She was also charged separately with trafficking methamphetamine to an Oklahoma City man who provided the drugs to undercover agents. Through a spokesman, Representative Watts claimed to be "very concerned about his sister," but contrary to his family-comes-first stance, admitted he had not seen her in more than a year. Darlene Watts surrendered to authorities and was jailed on December 31, 1997. Her brother, the Congressman, let her sit behind bars for an entire month. When J.C. ventured to see his sister in the lockup on January 31, 1998, he and a staff photographer from the Daily Oklahoman turned the visit into a photo opportunity. J.C. Watts is presented as a devout Christian and devoted husband, but he has yet to outgrow a reputation in some circles as being enamored of his own ability to melt any woman who walks within his range. The Representative insists that the famous campaign by Larry Flynt to unearth Republican skeletons, had no impact on his decision to admit the previously undisclosed existence of an illegitimate child. "I'm not going to dignify that by discussion," responded Watts when questioned about Flynt. "I will say this: The President stood in the Rose Garden here three or four weeks ago and said that we should bring an end to the politics of personal destruction. The Oklahoma Congressman sounds as though he is talking scared. What does the pure man have to fear from the politics of personal destruction? Many feel that it is only a matter of J.C. Watts running for higher office to bring his dirty secrets crawling into the light. |
